The Effect of Sunni Schools of Law in Reinforcing Peace and Compassion: A South African Case Study with Regard to Attempt to Enact Muslim Personal
Dr. Muneer Abduroaf- Lecturer, University of the Western Cape, Attorney and Trustee at Highlands Waqaf Trust, highlighted the Effect of Sunni Schools of Law in Reinforcing Peace and Compassion: A South African Case Study with Regard to Attempt to Enact Muslim Personal, during the conference organized by the South African section of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema on the theme of “The common religious constants: the foundations of the components of the African identity”, on 25 and 26 Shawwal 1440 H corresponding to 29 and 30 June 2019, in Pretoria.
Hence, Doctor Muneer confirmed that Muslims have been living in South African for over three hundred years. However, he added that no laws have been enacted by the South African government that gives effect to Islamic law.
Furthermore, Dr Abduraof stated the difficulties faced by South African Muslims as a result of the current status. Meanwhile, he mentioned several cases that have gone to the South African courts looking at this regard.
In short, Doctor Muneer Abduraof called on some recommendations based on the principles of compassion and peace, which include enacting Islamic laws that incorporate opininions found within other schools of law, not essentially followed by South African Muslims.
